Nikkei reports that Apple and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company are joining together to explore the possibility of creating thin display technology for a possible augmented reality and virtual reality headset or glasses.
The micro OLED displays would not require backlighting and therefore be thinner than traditional OLED displays. This technology is still a long way off and would take time to research and develop before making way into the market and specifically, Apples products. Nikkei reporting concluded that such technology is about two years before possibly appearing in any of Apple technologies.
