As one of the last announcements of Nintendo Direct 2.17.2021, Nintendo surprised everyone with the announcement of Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch.
The Inklings and Octolings are back with some new turf to paint all the way out in the Splatlands and its newly populated city, Splatsville. In the preview trailer, we see some familiar weapons with slight twists and one new weapon: a bow that shoots three streams of paint. We learn that Inklings can begin battles in, as Nintendo calls it, a “midair spawner drone.” Inklings have two new moves: the “squid roll” where they can leap and twist out of their ink and the “squid surge” that allows them to swim up a paint-covered wall and jump out at the top.
The bad news is that it’s going to be a long wait. Splatoon 3 will be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
