Epic Games purchased Mediatonic Games, the game studio behind the popular Fall Guys franchise as well as its parent company, Tonic Games Group. Fall Guys became a hit this past year, selling millions of copies on Steam and Playstation. It was recently announced that Fall Guys will be released on the Switch and Xbox this summer.
Fall Guys is a massive online party-type game where up to 60 players are placed together in a number of levels with obstacles and the last one standing, wins. There are competitive modes where players are working against one another and cooperative modes where players need to work together to complete challenges.
The studio is hoping its newest purchase will find the same popularity as it other big games Fortnite and Rocket League. It’s clear Epic’s strategy is to broaden its audience with family friendly games.
