In an announcement early this morning, SpaceX has said 60 Starlink satellites have been deployed. Starlink is SpaceX’s upcoming internet service, which they say offers a high speed, low latency broadband internet experience. In beta, consumers can expect speed ranging from 50mbps to 150mbps and Elon Musk recently tweeted out that speeds can soon be expected to double to 300 mbps.
Starlink satellites will fly up to 60 times closer to Earth versus traditional satellites and as a result, will be able to offer a satellite internet service with lower latency which is needed from video calls to online gaming. Originally targeted to rural areas and areas lacking proper infrastructure, Musk has hinted in tweets it will be available in more urban areas like the Bay area of San Francisco later this year.
Starlink broadband internet is available for $99.00 per month with a one-time fee of $499.00 for hardware + $50.00+ for shipping and handling.
