Everything announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event

Samsung revealed a number of updates to its popular mobile products and here are the items we found most exciting.

Galaxy Z Fold3 5G

One of updates I was looking forward to the most was the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Hands-on impressions reveal that the latest foldable from Samsung is their most refined yet. The phone, with its 6.2″ cover screen unfolds to reveal a 7.6″ screen. It appears some of the refinements are under the hood, such as a new IPX8 water resistant rating. (Although it does not carry a ip68 dust resistance rating so be careful carrying this on the beach) Samsung decided to include an under display camera on the foldable screen to allow a more uninterrupted experience with the larger screen. So far, reviews have shown that the selfie camera is inferior to the previous punch hole camera on the Fold 2. But this really isn’t a big deal because a user has two other cameras to take selfies with. A review is forthcoming as soon as we receive our Fold 3.

Galaxy Z Flip3 5G

The biggest surprise was how well the Flip 3 was received. Samsung appears to hit this out of the park. Early reviewers were in love with the small, folded form factor and the small, useable outer screen. The small outer screen gives users access to notifications such as messages, and can even be used to preview selfies, all while the phone is folded. The Flip 3 starts at $999.

Gone are the days where the Galaxy watches ran on Samsung’s Tizen platform. Samsung and Google have announced a partnership where Samsung will provide the hardware and the wearables will run on Google’s WearOS. The Galaxy Watch Classic and Galaxy Watch (which is the new Galaxy Watch Active) were announced with minor cosmetic upgrades and a number of improvements under the hood with Wear OS.
