Apple has announced an update to its streaming box. The new Apple Tv 4k update includes a step up to the A12 Bionic chip but the star of the show is the redesigned remote. The new remote is slightly thicker than the older Siri remote and the voice assistant button has been moved to the side where one’s thumb would rest. (I foresee many accidental Siri button presses.). The flat touchpad is gone and replaced with a circular touch pad that looks to be slightly raised. I was one of the few who liked the old remotes; the touchpad took some getting used to but scrubbing through a film or show was very easy once one got the hang of the remote. My only complaint is that the old remote is constantly slipping between couch cushions; hopefully the thicker remote will remedy that problem. One developing feature is the possibility to use the light sensor on your iPhone 12 to adjust the picture settings on your Apple TV; a number of apps are working to integrate this feature. The new streaming box starts at $179 for the 32GB version and goes up to $200 for 64GB of storage.
